Your app
Pre-certified
An FCC and ISED certified cellular radio, so your product's certification starts further along.
Global coverage
A built-in eSIM covers 17 LTE bands, with global carrier roaming. No SIM cards or carrier contracts.
LTE-M or NB-IoT
Both are built in, so each device runs on the network that suits its site.
Cellular over satellite
3GPP NTN carries NB-IoT over satellite beyond tower coverage, on the same module and antenna.
Built-in location
GPS and GLONASS on the module, for an accurate position instead of an approximate one from cell towers.
Built to scale
Jooni Cloud is ready at power-up: fleet management, over-the-air updates and routing to any endpoint.

Cellular LTE‑M

Inside the module

Interfaces

Serial API. Your device talks to the module through a simple serial API.
Command line. Set up and test the module over USB while you develop.
GPIO. Spare pins for your own signals and controls.
Reset + Enable. Hardware pins let your device reset or enable the module.

Intelligence

Jooni firmware

One API across the Jooni module family

Compression. Readings are compressed before they're sent, saving airtime and power.
Store and forward. Readings wait on the module during outages, then send.
Network routing. Every reading finds its way to Jooni Cloud.
Efficiency. Deep sleep between transmissions means battery-powered devices run longer.
Over-the-air updates. New firmware arrives over the air, with no site visit.
Cloud-synced settings. Change a setting in Jooni Cloud and the module picks it up.
Onboard storage. Data stays on the module, even through power loss.

Wireless communication

Cellular. Works on LTE-M and NB-IoT, with extended coverage for remote sites and support for moving assets.
Cellular over satellite. NB-IoT over satellite (NTN) keeps devices reporting beyond tower coverage.
Global eSIM. A global eSIM is built in, so there's no SIM card to manage.
GNSS location. Built-in GPS and GLONASS give each device its own position.
Antenna port. One antenna serves cellular and satellite.

Cloud

Jooni Cloud

Included with every module

Fleet management. See every device's status in one place.
Remote configuration. Control any device and roll out updates from anywhere.
Data to your apps. Readings flow to your own systems through the APIs.

Cellular LTE‑M

Frequently asked questions

  • Yes. The module supports both LTE-M and NB-IoT, and you can switch between them remotely, so devices already in the field don't need a site visit.

  • Yes. The module supports 3GPP Release 17 satellite (NTN). When a device moves beyond cellular coverage, it keeps sending data over satellite using the same hardware and antenna.

  • Choose Cat 1 bis for devices that need more bandwidth, such as gateways, telematics units and devices that send larger payloads. For low-power sensors that report periodically, LTE-M draws less power and reaches further into buildings.

  • Yes. LTE-M includes coverage enhancement modes that repeat transmissions, which helps signals reach basements, metal enclosures and sites at the edge of a tower's range. Coverage still depends on local signal conditions.

  • Under the 3GPP LTE-M specification, up to 375 kbps uplink and 300 kbps downlink. That is ample for sensor readings, alerts and over-the-air firmware updates. Actual rates depend on signal quality.

  • The module supports 17 LTE bands across North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific. See the coverage map for supported regions.

  • Yes. The module has a GNSS receiver for GPS and GLONASS, for accurate positioning in tracking and time-stamped readings. Where the sky is blocked, Jooni Cloud can still give an approximate position from the cell towers the module connects through.

  • About 9 µA in sleep, 15 mA idle and up to 230 mA during transmission at 5 V; the transmit peak rises to 390 mA at 3.3 V. Battery life depends on how often the device wakes and transmits.

  • The module connects to an external antenna through a u.FL connector. A 1 dBi vertically polarized antenna is recommended.

  • The cellular radio is FCC and ISED certified, which simplifies certifying your connected product. Your finished product may still require its own testing, depending on its other components.
